"I didn't cry at the funeral but I'm cryin' for you." And that, my friends, is the power of a good interviewer. Our condolences, Mr. Washington.

I didn’t cry at my mother’s funeral either, because she was 86, paralyzed, and ready to go. The day of her death I felt a soft Spring breeze flutter around me and off into the trees. I knew she was happy to be free. I ache for me sometimes because I miss her.

I miss you mom. Thanks to Denzel for being so honest and vulnerable about his true feelings. When he asked for a tissue, I had just grabbed one myself.

Wow. Never seen Denzel like this - ever. But kudos to him for being so honest and vulnerable. It's important to know that it's okay. I wish him well.

My mother signed her own hospice orders. I cared for her at home. Our last morning together she remarked that I looked tired. No way. You trained me my entire life just for this. I'm not tired. She gave me a hug that I still feel 13 years later. I knew the moment she left for her next journey. My mom was my best friend.

This made me wanna cry for him. Nor rich nor poor, nor old nor young, can escape the sorrow of thy mother's passing.

Denzel: hug 'em, love 'em....
Stephen: I know well
Denzel: you know well? You've been down that road?
Stephen: yes. Couple times.
Denzel: God bless you, brother

That shit struck a cord if you know about Stephen's family tragedy. God bless them both 🙏

Losing my son recently, I really was affected by Denzel’s honest feelings about his mother. My son and I had a special relationship with Shakespeare and I felt that he was speaking to me through Denzel. I love all the work that Denzel‘s ever performed and I think he is a fantastic actor. I wish he and his family many more blessings.

I just love how Colbert is talking so openly about grief. We need these conversations. Thank you for doing this, so many of us are hurting. My mom passed a few months ago and it's gut wrenching.

Stephen always finds the words to express the love of grief. His empathy is deep and he allows his conversation partner to show that love. ❤️💔❤️

Strong men do cry and are not afraid to shed a few tears in front of people. Denzel is a wonderful, strong man! May his mother Rest In Peace

It wasn't until my mom passed away that I realized how much she loved me, and sacrificed for me. I guess you could say I took it for granted. I was born with a rare genetic condition and birth defects, and my mom definitely overprotected me when I was young, but as I got older she was my biggest cheerleader and motivator. I hope she knew how much I loved her when she passed. I miss her every day. I pray she's at peace now and in no pain...🙏❤️

Yes!!! Denzel Washington is so real. I didn't cry at my dad's funeral, to my surprise. I was able to read a tribute to him and everything. I never cried even though I had a ton of emotions. I went two years of missing his voice, and I came across a Google memories alert 2 weeks ago and there was my dad's voice. A voice I have longed to hear since Sept '19. That's when I cried and they were such beautiful, healing tears.
