Chadwick Boseman: “There is no BLACK PANTHER without Denzel Washington”

Chadwick Boseman pays tribute to Denzel Washington at the 47th AFI Life Achievement Award on June 6, 2019 at the Dolby Theatre. In this clip, Boseman: “there is no BLACK PANTHER without Denzel Washington. And not just because of me. My whole cast, that generation, stands on your shoulders.” AFI LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: A TRIBUTE TO DENZEL WASHINGTON aired on June 20, 2019 on TNT. Sister network Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will air the special in October 2019, during a night of programming dedicated to Washington’s work.

Other presenters at the event included Mahershala Ali, Julia Roberts, Jodie Foster, Antoine Fuqua, Jamie Foxx, Morgan Freeman, Michael B. Jordan, Issa Rae, and Cicely Tyson and many others who all paid tribute to Washington's life and work.

Chadwick Boseman was so eloquent and lucid in showing his gratitude to a living legend Denzel Washington that Mr. Denzel was almost in tears. A great person Chadwick, gone so soon, may be GOD Almighty was waiting for him. Rest in Peace.

Everything he said resonates so much harder knowing it’s coming from a man who knows his time is limited. It’s the words of wisdom from a man who can find the most satisfaction in his remaining days saying what needs to be said in a world he will soon be leaving.
