A perfectly fair review, I think. Asked about retiring, Paul said something like, "From what?" And I imagine that's how Ringo feels - probably more than Paul does, in truth. This _is_ his retirement: the pressure's off; he's just enjoying himself. To be honest the All-Starr Band thing has always felt a bit cabaret to me. What I've heard of this feels much the same. I'm not likely to buy it, but I wouldn't dream of telling him he should stop.

Lots of comments suggesting Ringo is trying to stay relevant and should retire - can’t say I agree at all. Certainly, this album is no great feat, but I gather from interviews that he releases these mostly for himself. He loves music and working with his friends.

I like Ringo's new album, he's playing and singing better than ever-thanks Ringo!

Maybe what the world really needs is a Ringo Abba covers album? I would buy that, even if it was terrible.

Hi John,
Nice to see. Sad to hear that you didn't find the album too much to your liking. Glad that they nailed the John Lennon tribute. I guess you cannot win them all. Still hope he lives to be 100. Such a peace loving man and artist.

A great review John. Sadly I bailed on Paul’s new music with Memory Almost Full (when his voice cracked!) and Ringo’s with Old Wave!! I do think it’s great they still do it though in a way...I’d defend them but I just don’t get anything from their music any more. I also find Ringo a bit scary and bitter now...he reminds me of my relatives the same age haha Peace and Love indeed!!

A John Lennon song, with Paul McCartney on bass (playing amazingly) and Ringo singing beautifully, is a GREAT track!!

Ringo will be 80 years old inJuly 20, he can do what ever he wants, think about when you’re grandfather, or dad were 80, at least he’s still rocking, not in some nursing home! I’ll always love RINGO!

I did enjoy the album. There are more worse ways to spend a half hour. It is always good to hear your thoughts John. I imagine if John and George were still around they would help Ringo on his albums and make them better.

I must admit I have a warmer take on the album. Strongest cut is indeed Grow Old With Me. Sentiment alone has to win you over on that one, but Ringo and Paul did a spectacular job with it. The Lennon-esque flavour is maintained throughout. An interesting observation; I played the album for a friend last night who had stopped listening to Ringo years ago. He rather liked it, and made the comment "It is very listenable". One complaint I have with it is that Ringo's vocal style isn't always right for some of the songs on What's My Name.

I still say Ringo do a country album! It would shake up the music world! Do a standard or 2

John, Great channel! I agree with a lot of your opinions, not all, but many! I'd love to see you do a comparison of the two versions of "Somewhere In England". "Flying Hour" is my all time favorite song. The version which was intended for the LP, not the 1988 remix, which- even though its at the correct speed- drags. How Mo Ostin and his cronies decided it should be nixed is mind boggling!!

Grow Old with Me was originally meant for inclusion on the Double Fantasy album. However, Lennon and Ono were working on a tight deadline to get the album finished and released before Christmas and decided to postpone the recording of the song until the following year (1981) for the follow-up album, Milk and Honey. This never happened due to Lennon's murder in December 1980.

Had the song been fully finished and recorded, Lennon and Ono had envisioned it as a "standard, the kind that they would play in church every time a couple gets married, with horns and other arrangements".

George sings "Dark, Ding, Horse, Dong" which is a play on the two song titles. Love your videos!

I appreciate your assessment John. We may not agree, but that's okay...the fun part of this community is hearing the perspective of others. Peace to you and Cheers, Matt

I Thought you'd like to know that Glen Campbell did a good version of "Grow old with me" on one of his last albums. Great Review!

Hello John . I'm wondering if you had heard that Ringo remarked that this may be his last album ? Is there any more information on that ? I hope not, but i would fully understand . You mentioned George"s Ding Dong, Ding Dong song . I too have often wondered, for years, what he said at the end of the song . There is also a part in the song where he sings "No more Paul, " at least to my ears . Does anyone else hear it ? It may be well known, but i have never heard anyone talk about it .
