I do not like, though, the term guilt, the working guilt. I don't like the word guilt. Not that I don't have it. I do have it, but I think we need to kind of like change our wording and the way we talk about it. In German there's actually an expression, it's called Rabenmutter. It's meaning I don't even know what the translation is. It's a type of bird, it's like a black bird. But it basically means you're not a good mom. Yeah, it's not nice. So let's start with by starting with you, which means we need to, I think, let go a little bit of judgments of ourselves and of others. I think everybody can make their own choice if they can, and sometimes we can't. We don't have the choice. So we do have to, for example, work in order to support our children. If you have the luxury of making the choice, then that's great. But I think we should be less judgmental.
Which leads me to the second point, which is try to make time, even if it's a tiny, tiny, tiny little bit of time, for yourself, for self-care, for looking after yourself. Because I think as working mums, what often happens, you have work and then you have the kids and then there's nothing else. So it really means even if it's just five minutes per day or whatever you can carve out, make sure you have that moment for self-care for yourself. Because if we don't have how do we say this? If we are not okay with ourselves, it's very hard to take care of others. It's the same thing that I say with some masks coming down the plane.
First put it on yourself and then you can put it on others. Because if you don't put it on yourself first, then you can't have the energy to put it on others next. So think about that. I think that's very important. So be less judgmental, make time for yourself. And the other thing is kind of like let go of perfectionism. I personally think it's not doable being perfect in all areas. So you need to drop the ball somewhere and just be okay with that. And at the end of the day, I think it's also about spending quality time, so when you are there, whether that's at work or with yourself or with your kids, try to be present and try to be in the moment. And of course, it's very hard to do. I'm just saying this because you have all these balls in the air and you're like, "Oh, yeah, I still need to do this and this and this," but try to do that.
These would just be my couple of points to share. Again, I do not have the perfect solution, but I think it's more about listening to yourself and creating your own way of how you would like to live your life around the circumstances that you're in.
