An update can break everything. There have been 2 broken updates in the past year that can ruin your system.

Do not install a Windows Update, until it is at least a few days old. Unless you have the time for a potential re-install.

First of all, I NEVER had those pop-ups, I thoroughly went through Windows Services & the registry to ensure Updates are not forced upon me, some updates broke my Windows. Not cool!

I had this unintentionally, because HP made a computer that had no disk space so when you wanted to update is basically said "no you can't because you don't have enough space"

If you want to update whenever you want with no notifications, just enable metered connection from the settings.

I have had it disabled for awhile because I've had a long fight with MSI installing Nahimic and A-Volute audio software, which acts like malware and keeps reinstalling itself, while breaking some game sounds for me. Lately Windows has been packaging Nahimic and A-Volute in Windows updates, and they won't let me manually choose NOT to install it. So I turned it off completely.
