The myth about medieval people bathing only twice in their lifetime is, indeed, just a myth. Even back during the Roman Empire public bathhouses were available to the common people, it is only during the black plagues that hygiene has gone down significantly due to bathhouses being closed down, but even still, people back then did care about hygiene.
