Imagine working on the PC and getting jumpscared by the alien on your monitor, saying ayylmao

The idea that they’ll be digital is probably the most accurate but also the most disappointing

This reminds me of the idea of UFO’s being drones. They’re unmanned cameras; not aliens in a spaceships. This idea makes sense 10 year's ago, but now them being AI or digital currently makes sense

I was always curious as to why people still think our first contact will involve the hassle of landing on earth and stepping out of their spaceship to greet us. Like bro just facetime us from orbit it'd be safer for both of us and we wont freak out 😂

Besides all the juicy memes Sciencephile puts in every single video, there's a lot of food for serious thought and philosophy in this one. Well, in every video to be honest, but here I found ideas I didn't see discussed in other places. Interesting ideas. I'm seriously amazed by how you mix humor, sarcasm, memes, science and philosophy. I always have a laugh, and then I end up thinking about life or having a joyful existential crisis.

This makes me think of many sci-fi books I've read more or less recently.
Making your consciousness slower so that interstellar distances aren't a problem anymore => House of Suns by Alastair Reynolds, i.e. one of the best sci-fi novels ever.
Transferring your consciousness as a light (or neutrino) signal => Manifold: Space by Stephen Baxter.
The transition from organic to conputers (and beyond) => La Nuit du Faune by Romain Lucazeau (no translation in English, sadly).
Fascinating stuff as always.

The more the digital beings concept is described, the more it sounds like they really lack a drive to well, do anything. They're more just waiting to die. Then the question becomes, is that living? A set of machines slowing themselves down and going into sleep mode, storing more energy and minimizing everything they experience and do as much as possible?

I dont think its feasible to "transfer" conscious while keeping the original intact. Soma made the excellent point that we are just information, in digital computing everything is perfectly copied to preserve information, your copy wouldnt know the difference, but the original information is lost, meaning YOU are gone. Pretty scary stuff.

Edit: had a typo.
