It is hard to imagine an alien that would be completely different from the archetypical one. The most different aliens that we can generate are based on the most different animals that reside in the earth. A human who would be isolated from all the animals, and would be given a mirror. He probably could only come up with an alien that looks exactly like he does. Maybe aliens don't have to have a physical body, or maybe we can't even classify them as a life, or maybe they are a big organism with a collective thought. However, it is hard to demonstrate such different aliens in movies.

I feel like the best modern day description of the abstract alien form was done in Arrival. Arrival managed to warp our preconceived ideas of what aliens could look like. I think in order to determine what they look like, we don’t necessarily have to correlate them to anthropomorphism

they might look "humanoid" but their bodies will have to adapt and change shape to best suit the environment they live in. So technically there could be aliens that look exactly like us but it would just depend on what planet/solar system they come from.

I think the way aliens may look is linked to their evolutionary state, at some point a basic alien civilization may look like humans but in the far future the same civilization will understand the fragility of a physical body and pursue a better way of existence, something perfect and almost eternal.

Yes, It would be hard to imagine what Aliens may look like, I think it would depend on the size of the planet they came from - a larger one than earth may have a heavier gravity, so they may be smaller, more squat with a stronger body type, the smaller the planet they come from would be an opposite - less gravity - taller and thinner, how close they would be to their star and of course the type of star itself would determine how much radiation they get, which would determine their overall body type, the more sunlight - the smaller the eyes, darker skin tones, the less sunlight, the larger the eyes, the lighter the skin tone and so on, , , , what they look like would be a direct reflection on what star system they came from and the amount of radiation they got and what they ate and how they lived, what the composition of the star system they came from would also be a direct reflection on what they looked like - Carbon based? - Silicon based? and so on it goes, I truly believe that because of the age of the galaxy/ universe - how life can and has evolved (even here on earth) and just how much is literally out there - there IS life out there, some star systems older than us, much older than us and of course, some younger than us and the Aliens themselves would be more weirder and stranger than any hollywood movie or our imaginations could even BEGIN to imagine..
