On some events where you capture and hold positions over a matter of days, some snipers will stay in one position for as long as it takes, they will be in a gillie suit and cover themselves with materials from their surroundings, in snowy areas some have gone as far as putting snow in their mouth so their breath can't be seen, this is usually for military training and most people wouldn't go this far

Its badass but the problem is a good set of NODs or thermals will set you back about as much as the down payment on a vehicle. If you've got the money and you need them for whatever reason it's totally worth it. There are some minor cons though:

1. idk if they're still like this, but in my experience it takes a good minute to get used to using night vision goggles or thermals. Especially if you're just using one lens (which you probably are going to be), it throws off your depth perception until you get comfortable with them. So be aware of that. It's more uncomfortable than you'd think.

2. obviously dont use them in the day or around bright lights. It burns worse than staring at the sun.

3. Lastly, I doubt this happens much with airsoft, but NODs (and thermals as far as ik) work similarly to an IR flashlights. They just convert the IR light emitted from them into visible light. That means if anyone else on the field also has a set of night vision equipment, you're lit up brighter than a christmas tree because to them you look like you're shining a flashlight across the darkness. And they look like that to you too. That's kind of an awkward situation to be in.

4. Lastly, the best night vision optics for the price are probably PVS-14s, but don't get them pre assembled. It's not worth the 5, 000 buck price tag. A quarter of that will get you a kit to build one, the only issue with that is you have to purge them with nitrogen or else they'll fog up in cold/hot temperatures, as the moisture in the air inside them will condense. It's not easy to do and never works out perfectly, but it's better than not doing it at all so spend 50 bucks on a can of N2 or some other inert gas like argon and purge the air from the optic after it's assembled.
