Today we visit Cottage Grove outside of Madison, Wisconsin to the gardens of Jon and Virginia. Jon has been developing the garden for 15 years and has created not only a really cool functioning rain garden, but a whole bunch of cozy garden beds that create intimacy on his corner lot home.

If I'm not mistaken my husband's grandma grew Balsam. She called them touch me nots. When you touched the seed pods they exploded. They grew prolifically throughout her garden. she always gave seeds away.

Thank you Jon and Virginia for sharing your garden. I love all of the cozy vignettes you have created up by the house and all of colorful flowers combinations. I have to get some castor bean seeds. What a nice job you have done!

Enjoyed the garden tour! Much thanks to Jon & Virginia, and of course, Michelle. 💚💚💚I grew Balsam 7:58 in my flower garden for years. Direct seed the first year and it will readily reseed itself the next Spring. I gave my sister some seeds and the Balsam reseeded itself all over her garden. To keep in check, deadhead some seed pods before they dry and drop the seeds into the soil. Balsam comes in an array of colors - red, orange, pink, purple and white. It's a good middle of the border plant depending on the variety, and easy to form a drift. I loved having a re-seeder with a tropical vibe in zone 4. So much fun! I was impressed by the long blooming Giant Fleece Flower. The blooming insert is gorgeous! I need some height in my garden. The Sand Cranes were fun to see!

Absolutely get a Hose Link. It definitely is a game changer. I received 1 as a gift and then realized I needed another for my upper balcony where my potted plants are.

Thank you for your attention to the Sand Cranes! I love seeing the local wildlife ❤️
Love your home tours, you not only show the plants but name them and give specs so we can hunt them down… priceless!

I love my giant Fleeceflower too! What a beautiful garden, good job! I have a Hoselink hose reel and I also have one from Sunneday and it’s just as good as the Hoselink but cost $100 less. I’ve also heard recently that VEGO has a hose reel that is a lot less expensive than Hoselink. Do a bit of comparison shopping before investing in a retractable hose reel. Also I really have to put all of my weight and strength into pulling them, it’s not as easy as it looks!

Another Bee-utiful garden. John has done an amazing job in just 15 years. Being from the PNW and a city dweller, I find it interesting there are no fences a the yards seem to go on forever. Borrowed landscape.😊

So many things to love in his gardens. I wish I had more space for some of the larger plants. I will be watching this video a few times to see what to add to my garden.
