To be honest this way does work. I have 8 flowerbeds, and I use painting sheeting and then mulch and I never had a weed problem. It's been 7yrs. I also use the same sheeting for my driveway then added stone and I do not have not 1 weed in my driveway. But my neighbor laugh at me and said I like to work hard.5yrs later just the other day he stated he wish he did what I did in my driveway. I just lol and said yes hard work does pay off.

Decided to do some yardwork at new home and discovered i have two fabric layers with mulch on top of a rock layer on top of a third fabric layer and weeds growing all way through lol.

I ripped all the fabric out and used cardboard. Works, and provides organic material to the garden.

Well, I've certainly learned a lot by reading so many replies. I've lost count of how many I've read but I've been convinced to not use fabric under mulch. I will only use it under pebbles, stones and rocks. 👍🏽🌞

Step one to using landscape fabric is to throw it in the trash

If you guys don’t want to use fabric you can also use plain cardboard and that will dissolve slowly and organically into the soil

Direct contact with the multch and soil is better than placing it ontop of landscape fabric because the multch will still grow weeds after breaking down over time. But you can use weed killer but it discolors the multch

use newspaper or cardboard instead, then mulch..Don't use fabric..

I probably wouldn’t build a garden above the bottom of the brick / top of the foundation. But it sure does look nice. I love a good mulch covered garden bed.

Do not plant so close to foundation…..you’ll regret it years down the road…..
