It's that time of year again! Please enjoy the singular lyric video I'll be putting up this time around, for the RWBY Volume 8 opening.

A very happy New Year to everyone! May 2022 be kicked off with some sweet tunes, friendship, and family, and be as good a year as the fates allow (hopefully, at least, a deal kinder than these past two).

I wasn’t super into this song when I first heard it until she went “Some Roses will never bloom” that part hits different for me.

"We said goodbye, to all the things we love"
"Now it's time to say goodbye, to the things we love and the innocence of youth"

I love how Jeff Williams sort of pays homage to all the other volumes in this one song, or at least he tries to get it all in there lyrically; though the story is not over yet, it's as if volume 8 could be viewed as a cultivation of what all the other volumes were building up to. And you can see most of them in the lyrics he writes:

"We said goodbye, to all the things we loved" (Time To Say Goodbye, Volume 2)
"We tried to rise" (Rising, Volume 6)
"Defeat the hate through love; keep hope alive, trust our hearts" (Trust Love, Volume 7)
"Our plans of triumph torn apart" (The Triumph, Volume 5)
"Will this be the day?" (This Will Be The Day, Volume 1)
I suppose every time the song mentions falling in some way could be a reference to both Volume 8 and Volume 3's "When It Falls"

The only one I seem to not be able to find a specific lyric for that fits is Volume 4's theme "Let's Just Live".
But yeah, I noticed this one time in listening to the song and thought it was cool and wanted to share!

I love the message of this song. It's almost entirely depressing, giving off the impression there's no hope or chance for victory. Yet despite all that, it clear they haven't given up hope. The final line of the song makes it very clear no matter what is stands in their way, they will fight for what they believe in. A very powerful way to end this song.

This sounds like the amity arena leitmotif and during the Penny and Pyrrha / Merc and Ruby scene

pretty much sums up the whole volume 8

So, as far as I understand the coloring of the words in the final chorus:
Roses will never bloom - Ruby
Dream will rot on the vine - Vine (duh)
Lives will end much too soon - Penny
Evil will never ever die - Salem
Heroes choose the wrong side - Ironwood

Man this song is too real. Ik it's about a fictional show but sometimes heroes do choose the wrong side, wars never end in peace, and some evil seems to last forever. But we should still fight for every life.

"Some heroes choose the wrong side" is played when Cinder appears I believe, which with her backstory makes sense that she choosen the wrong path thanks to the cruelest of her adoptive mother plus the betrayal of her mentor.

0:17 The emotion in Casey's voice in "just to find" in the first verse is highly underrated.

I like how most of the openings have little motifs of the past ones. Just makes thing feel more connected

Hearing the rest of this song honestly makes me scared for season nine. The first full half of that song became true, hearing the second verse and the following verses make me fear that more death is coming in the next season

Can we just talk about this as a song real quick? Like, fr, the lyrics and Casey’s vocals we all know already go hard, but the backing instruments are honestly some of the best in an intro we’ve had so far, imo. I hear that double kick drum, and it makes me feel good.
