The young lady hasn't thought this through, IMO. Fads that involve eating unappetizing items to impress peers are nothing new; our great-grandparents thought swallowing live goldfish was awesome. But the risk component has amped up. I agree with DoniceN -- 'Jackass', and any show marketed to young ppl which casually promotes the idea that it's cool to take mindless risks, should not see the light of day. The producers and networks care more about $$$ than teaching common sense, plus they should know that kids follow their peers and social trends more than their parents' warnings. Parents -- whether right wing or liberal -- love their children and try to give them good guidance, but they need society to back them up. Think about when you were a kid, and the power of peer pressure. Think about college fraternities killing pledges with paddles, alcohol and enforced sleeplessness; they know the danger but are influenced by 'tradition' to engage in hazardous practices. It seems young people will do anything to gain acceptance and avoid feeling left out. Parents have enough to worry about their kids; they don't need tart-tounged TV pundits with scant experience handing down gratuitous judgments. Just my 2-cents.
