How about buying a few defunct factory
And turn them into apartments for the
homeless.Or a few warehouses and turn them into apartments.

Agreed. The hotels should only be for the families FIRST. Not the ppl that engage in violence and drug use.

Would these people opposing this effort opt to see the homeless in hotels or in tents spread in the streets? What better solutions do they offer?

Replace every council member and mayor. You can bet that none of these purchases will ever happen in their neighborhoods.

I moved from Houston to get away from the alcoholic, drug abusing bums in my neighborhood.

Now that I finally found a small area I’m Comfortable in, they want to bring the riffraff (that I came to Austin to avoid) and put them a mile from my house

You actually save money if you house them leave 1 person on the street their medical bills alone yikes

Can’t blame these people at all. They don’t need handouts. They need jobs opportunities.

Why don't you propose legal minimum wage act wage . An objective measure of the average rent for one bedroom apartment local and 4 times the rent as the landlord expects me to have.

The neighbors who own homes and businesses near these hotels are asking valid questions. What’s the long term solution besides getting families and individuals off the streets? If they didn’t want to stay at city shelters how are they going to improve their lives after they’re shelter at hotels?

So they don’t want them to be homeless on the streets but don’t want them to live in a hotel.. make it make sense

Again it's a hard responsibility for the government to help. The people are clueless to the solution there are no reports, proposals, layouts, blueprints, technical methods of solutions. This is much of a government issue but a people and community issue. If this can not be solved by the people then it will continue to grow. Where is the people power? The people only have power to vote smh you have it to create solutions .. create them or change the function of your government into half cap and half socialist or whatever but as it stands now the us government is not built or constructed for such issues.

There will be rules about alcohol and drugs and there will be a curfew and so many homeless will not want to stay at the city run shelters. I am sympathetic but just camping all over the city is going to become a massive problem like Venice Beach, CA.
