Yes I always reckon that fruit trees that fruit too heavily one year tend to have a rest the next year, I guess none if us ever bother but thinning fruit is the right way to go 😁

Great video, Jeff. It's a shame it's not bloomed as much this year, hopefully, you still get a few avocados off it. I really like how you maximize space by multi-grafting your fruit trees, it's something I'm considering doing here (although unfortunately not with avocados, as they wouldn't survive in my location).

This year was abnormal with the rainstorms that lasted longer than normal (I'm in Fresno, CA) in the Central Valley. I have a Fuerte tree that hasn't flowered at all yet, lots of new growth, beautiful growth but not even 1 single flower yet. I see that your tree is lacking as well. I hope that it was just the weather and that we will have a late bloom

This season I bloom boosted a Stewart with Dr.Earths Flower Girl 3-9-4. Despite heavy flowering and some leaf thining there is plenty of vegitative growth now. Maybe some nitrogen is good in a lower ratio. Thanks for sharing

Great video, Jeff. Do you spray your avocado trees when they are young during cool rainy winter months to prevent root rot? I have young avocado trees. Thank you for the video. It's a great reminder.

FACT - Avocado Trees go in cycles. One year you can have a bumper crop. The next year almost nothing. The funny thing. I have a 30-foot Bacon Avocado Tree I grew from a seed from my parent's tree. I noticed when I have a bumper crop. So does my parent's original tree have a bumper crop. Even though we live 40 miles apart.

I have 2 nice sized Avocado trees (Hass 7' and 5') from seeds but never fertilized them. Just re-potted with new soil as I move up pot sizes. i don't want to hit them too hard with fertilizer. what should I use and how much?

one tree is not as green as the other lately but still seems fine. I have 2 small sized avocado trees about 1-2' height. I find I have no idea how to keep them out of trouble or how to save one if it falters.
any tips appreciated .
also I have to keep them in pots because every tree I planted in the ground here has died.

Hi can you tell me why the young leaves on my avo tree's are shriveling up and tearing apart they don't grow big they just shrivel up and this is happening mostly above the fence line

It is possible that the alternate bearing is not so much affected by the 0--10-10 fertilizer as it is affected by multiple grafting. With multiple grafting, you are expanding the harvest window over more months to accommodate many varieties that come on over five or six months rather than the two-month window that one variety would have. So, your tree is working hard to support fruit for much of the year compared to a one-variety tree. This is just a theory that would benefit from more investigation. Ideally, you would be pumping the tree full of nitrogen during the growing season, and switching to something higher in potassium and magnesium in the fall. Magnesium transports carbohydrates from leaves to roots, and potassium stores the energy in the roots to support next year's fruit. From what I have read, avocados don't need a lot of phosphorous and, since that stays in the soil and can actually build up, I reduce phosphorous levels in the future. Try kelp meal for K and trace elements. You might need more calcium and magnesium to offset all that potassium.

Have you tried girdling your tree? I’ve seen videos on it and it’s supposed to help those trees that alternate bear fruit.

avocado tree are nitrogen hogs .. don't need fancy fertilizer .. do very well just use animal manure of any kind, , it wont burn root at all.. just do top dressing .. i load mine with dog poop, rabbit poop .. horse poop .. it grew almost 2x per year on average .. extremely healthy, , i have to cut them just to keep in manageable height .. and fruit like crazy..
