When I was younger. We fished for garfish and they grew up to about 15” long. Beyond that we called them Long toms. The garfish we ate and I think the Long Toms Dad boiled them up and fed them to the chickens. Mum cooked the garfish by butterflying them, rolling them with a rolling pin, lifting the backbone out and then frying them. Delicious. A common way to do them in Australia.

Oh wow the colour of the spinal bone is a beautiful turquoise colour when boiled.. I wonder if the colour would keep it treated and preserved for an art piece. Thanks for the inspiration Smash 👌

Hi "Smash", I've heard that you can fry up and eat the "funny green bones". Have you ever tried that? I'm guessing it would be like the bones in canned pilchard etc, not my favourite but may be nice if all fresh and home cooked and that.

Great bit of sport Smash without the need to go miles and the fuel bill to go with it was that a Penn Slammer you was using on the lure rod
