My dad caught two alligator gar that weighed over 200 pounds apiece. He knew he was going to catch them that day and they're a historical species in our area, so he called some wildlife biologist that he knew to go with him. They tagged and released them for study

About 18 years ago, when my daughter was 10- she was riding her bike in our subdivision. She rode past a pond very close to us and freaked out when she accidentally ran over something (which had leaf litter around it) and it made a noise. She tore home screaming- there’s a little alligator on the road. I know I ran over it! It’s the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen!
So, I walked down the road next to the pond and by gawd- it was the ugliest thing with sharp teeth I’d ever seen. I moved it closer to the pond and googled weird fish, long snout, sharp teeth- and there it was- an alligator gar! Someone has caught it and thrown it away 😢. Made me think twice about ever letting my kids go near that deep pond! Lord only knows how many are in there- and for how long they’ve been there!
