I bought this tool. It is the absolute bomb. My corners are really great.

Well worth the money, nothings ever square and this tool is foolproof. Had one for a few years now and it’s well made and robust.

You also can use the tool to calibrate the saw. If your saw is out by 1/2 degree the tool is worthless.

I've got two now. I did what finishcarpentry TV did and snapped a leg on one of them so I can get it into smaller spaces.
Definitely an easy way to up your game.
I was one of the guys who just 45d and super glued everything and just made it fit. Caulking would sort out the rest.
This makes perfect mitres alot less of a ball ache.

In England though, we plaster the entire wall. We call it skimming. Most plasterers in england have an annoying habit of not flattening the bottom 4" of wall properly. It tends to be left belling out nearly a 1/4 most times. So you end up trying to scrape some back as best you can and then having to deal with not only slight variations in the mitres but also nothing being a 90degree cut either.
I kinda like the effect tho

Thanks for the tutorial. Bought off Amazon and like most went to the Starrett site to see how to use it - not much help there. This was a better video explaining how to use it. Adding miter cuts would make the video better.

Glad I found this video, I bougth the tool off of Amazon, and went to the Starrett site to find a video on how to use it. But the guy in their video doesn't explain how to read the measurement at all.... thank you!

mmm my saw has max 45 degrees and max 5inches for baseboard. Question is how do you use a mire saw (10" blade) to make a 48 degree cut if you dont want to buy anything to achieve this?

I was expecting to see you go to the Miter Saw and make few cuts.

No. You don't cut miters on inside corners. You cope them. Only hacks miter inside corners.

I’m hanging crown for the first time. I finally figured out how to cut it right on my chop saw but a 45 absolutely dosnt make it perfect

Nice video. Although on 1x of the inside corners you measured, perhaps the 3rd one, 45° & I didn't understand how you could have inside corner at 45° ?

According to the tool it looks like you’re using the edge to measure single cuts wouldn’t you need to spin the arms around and use the other edge for miter cuts like it says?

For interior window frames I’m assuming I’d use the miter side as I would be measuring on the face of drywall but at the corners of windows correct?

good demo for that but easier to use digital angle finder i would think.

Thank you for the upload. Bought this tool on Amazon and Starret's own video will not teach you how to use the tool. My only gripe is that the new tools the markings are GRAY not Black and thus rendering very difficult to read tool.

I can see how you are measuring, but I don't understand the instructions on the handels. What does it mean "single cut" or "mitre cut"?

I bought the Saker Miter Saw Protractor which is made of aluminum and far better than this plastic Starrett Miter Saw Protractor.

I'm ordering my own. Good thing that US uses degrees on this rather than "full sircle is 163, 5 bourbons".
