A pro tip I learned years ago, if you add +0.5-+1 degree to your outside cuts and -0.5-1on inside cuts, this will allow the points to meet first and with some pressure, they'll flex into a perfectly flush fit.

You will also want to calibrate your mitre saw's mitre gauge using that protractor as your reference since most saws aren't perfectly calibrated/square either. Always best to stick to one measuring tool unless you're dealing with precision instruments
