Best of the dozen I watched, he's the only guy who even mentions some like it closing one way or another. Props

This video sure took me back to when I was in Little League (I’m 61 I can just see that “glove mallet” in the dugout or change room.... oh my.... 12 years olds beating on each other. Thanks for the enlightenment of spreading that glove oil on a rag at first and working in the oil throughout the seams and uniformly. I learned a bunch of things, but almost 50 years too late. Seriously, nice for an old Phart like to pass on to my grandchildren. Now about that glove mallet.... My wife might start using it on me.... ha ha ha ha ha cheers....

I used coconut oil on mine, because in my country, I can't find glove oil or balm. It is a players preferred 12.5 H web from Rawlings and I absolutely love it. Still working with a batting machine softball as a mallet to break it in, coming out real nice. By the way, Rawlings, the pictures on Amazon for that glove are the perfect illustration for the word "understatement".

Thank you for the very informative and thorough video. This will make the glove break-in process much easier and smooth to execute on.

Anyone else put a ball in the glove, wrap it up with rubber bands and place it under their mattress? My teammates and I did this . Worked great.

Im here from dear even hansen and i followed these instructions on 1 glove and the DEH instructions on one glove, DEH instructions work better, you rub it with shaving cream for 5 min and tie it up with rubber bands, you then put it under your matress and sleep on it for a week, when you remove it, and take of the bands, your glove will be ready

Make sure not to spray it directly on the glove

Him: *sprays it directly on glove*

I played center field in T ball almost 30 years ago, two seasons and never played again. Bought a glove to play catch with my son, *still* closing it how they taught me way back then, pinky to thumb.

I didn't even think about it until you said it. That's actually kinda funny to me.

Rawlings used to make the best 14” softball gloves, but not anymore.
Please start making 13-1/2”/ 14” customizable gloves.
This is an excellent video.

Applying some glove conditioner and playing lots of catch is the best way to break in a glove.

It'll just take a little patience, take a little time, a little perseverance, a little uphill climb.
You might not think it's worth it, you might begin to doubt, but you can't take any shortcuts, you gotta stick it out.
And it's the hard way, but it's the right way.
The right way... to break in a glove.

This is how we were breaking them in when I was a kid (80s). I had never seen nor heard of the hot water, Vaseline, etc. until the Internet.

We always used a bat to do the mallet thing when we got gloves.
