Don’t interrupt your enemies when they make a mistake.

I actually feel bad for the guy. Surrounded for life by people who are legally compelled to lie to you instead of actually helping you improve.

My family lived in Xian between '86-'88. My dad told me a story about riding his bicycle past a detail of soldiers in the quick march. When he waved at them as he overtook, the entire formation collapsed into a gaggle of enthusiastic waving.

It's been a while since I studied military theory, but I'm pretty sure the saying "An army marches on its stomach" wasn't meant to be taken literally.

I don’t think anyone in China actually respects him lol, they are clearly subtly mocking him

Xinyu is largely in a ceremonial role due to name only, and the lowest ranking general in the PLA ground force. My assumption is that he is elevated such because Xi has used his grandfathers legacy to consolidate power himself which makes/made Xinyu useful.

All I’m saying is never underestimate your enemy. Even though this guy is a total tool.

This makes Jar Jar’s appointment as General in ep 1 look like a master class in leadership.

Actually, this guy is pretty chill. I have watched other stuff and while he isn't particularly smart, he is very well aware of his position and how others see him. He is smart enough to know what's going on and not try anything stupid or suicidal, like letting people convince him that he's some kind of perfect human being because he's Mao's grandson.
The odd thing is that this guy is saying things like 'listen to the people' in public to the CCP leadership and he gets away with it, because that is supposedly what the CCP is all about.

people laughed at him for being an incompetent general, he laughed at the people for having him as an incompetent general.

This is the kind of guy to lose battles on easy mode in Total War.

The poor guy is the boss in theory only. He is a mascot that will be the target of blame when his underlings messed up. No one in the PLA will ever take his words as command, but he will be responsible for every f up and corruption in the army. That is the real disgusting fact I get from this.

I am Chinese and I don't know this guy but one thing that I can tell you is that he is there for the show because of the bloodline but I highly doubt he can make any decision or anything

Fun fact. He wasn't promoted for skill or ability or even sexual favors. He ate his way to the top

In Soviet Union there was a logic to this. If you have moron boss - you can manage him and pass anything through him, paying lip service. The ppls were called "aparatchik".
With this scheme you can make few schemes: 1. Funnel the funds allocated to your dpt. For yourself and buddies keeping boss in the dark and casting blame if things goes south. (Shifting blame is kinda difficult though). Or if u rly need efficiency- you just parade your boss around, trying to keep him away as possible from important decisions or leading them onto those decisions. Inefficient? - way better than with a "smarter boss" :)

Mao fun facts:
1. His dad had suspected schizophrenia.
2. He works as a "researcher" at the PLA-AM, the same place he received his "doctorate".
3. He is a published "author".
4. A journalist referred to his promotion to major general as "an insult to the Academy of Military" (AM), while a spokesperson for AM referred to his" many achievements" as the reason for his promotion. Mao himself suggests "family factors" played a role lol.
5. He's on an advisory board for the central government.
6. He took up a teaching position at Guangzhou University where he teaches Mao Zedong Thought.
7. His first wife died in a political prison.
8. Has a son named Mao DongDong.

I once worked on a car camera project in China. The camera is mandatory to be installed in any truck in order to prevent drowsy driving due to a new regulatio, and all products need permission to be put in the market. And my boss mentioned how he managed to get an official in the traffic department to permit our product, and we were still in early development at the time.

That general does look like he won the war against McDonalds, confiscated all the burgers and other cardboard.

My brother once told me he had to go meet a colonel in his office, and on the man's desk was a framed picture of a Russian colonel. And when he asked him what the picture was for, the colonel said he was his counterpart and that it was a reminder that everyday he needed to do his job better than that guy. I thought it was a cool story

I read a huge book on the opium wars and I was shocked at how ridiculous they were/are. They would literally be telling the Emperor "We have won a great battle today, we will destroy them", when in fact the opposite was true.
