Even knowing how it ultimately turned out for Jerry about six years later (and just over one year later for Brent), it still is so heartwarming to see how healthy and happy he looks, and how clearly excited he is to be up there playing.

Compare this to something from 1983 or 1984, and it's just night and day difference in how engaged Jerry is. I assume he still enjoyed smoking weed and doing lines in 1989, but with the heroin monkey off his back for a while (and getting some actual physical activity by doing scuba with Kreutzmann in Hawaii), he was able to bounce back, and the band crested its third high and beautiful wave as a result. (1972 and 1977 being the first two, in my eyes)
