As someone who lives in Virginia what he said about weather in Virginia is so true

Tolls are everywhere. Even worse, the state has a property tax on your car.

Virginia is a gorgeous state, it's much more than the NOVA area.

Northern Virginia is unrecognisable compared to 30 years ago. Ruthlessly exploited by developers for its proximity to DC, it has become a nightmare. The politics have become completely conflicted with the influx of Federal workers. Development has outpaced infrastructure to the extent that the only word that fits is inadequate, in all respects. Yet many rural areas are borderline poverty. If contemplating a move, do your research, intensively!

Born and raised Virginian here. I live in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. And I echo what my Dad used to say when we’d come back home from vacation. “I’ve been a lot of places and seen a lot of things. But nothing that I like any better than what I have right here.” I’m blessed to be a Virginian and love my state. And as the saying goes about the weather, if you don’t like it, wait a few minutes and it will change. I’d say this video is spot on.

Live in northern Virginia outside DC. When asked how far to someplace, we check the time and give distance in units of time.

Left Virginia, never looked back. The state was definitely not for me, and we only lived there because of the military.

If you buy a house in Newport News they throw in a bullet-proof vest at no extra charge. 😂

I live in Arlington VA and much of what you said is spot on. If you don’t have allergies when you move here just wait a few years. DC literally was carved out from a swamp, up until at least WW II it was considered a hardship post for foreign diplomats. It sits in sort of a bowl and when it’s pollen season the stuff just accumulates. If you live in Arlington, Alexandria, maybe Fairfax county the state is divided into Northern VA and Virginia. It’s like the difference between NYC and New York State. Northern VA is not the south. Virginia is a big and geographically diverse state, you’ll see what I mean if you ever drive the length of I-81 through the state. And yes, we have loads of history. After all, eight U.S. presidents were from Virginia including four of the first five.

As to the Southern Charm, basically folks are friendly but not warm. Don’t make too much about initial friendliness has the depth of Formica.

VA native here who has lived in Washington, DC proper and lives in Maryland. The video is pretty spot on. However, I must point out that John Denver sang about West Va roads. Huge different between the two states except in the Appalachia area. NOVA: northern VA in the metro DC area. Not as southern as you may think. It is very racially, culturally, and ethnically diverse. It is one of the highest income and real estate areas in the entire US. Housing prices average more on the $750K side.

We do have great colleges and universities. I was disappointed that you didnt mention the HBCUs in the state. Hampton University (formerly Hampton Institute) is consistently ranked as one the best small universities by US News College Rankings. VA State University, Norfolk State University, and Virginia Union University have strong degrees in certain disciplines.

Even though I live in Maryland, I will always be proud of VA and my Southwestern roots.

Lived here almost my whole life. Born and raised in Alexandria. Once you get out of northern VA, it's a beautiful state!
