Auston Matthews and Sidney Crosby were going for the same puck at the same time and it didn’t end well for either of them.

Matthews knew what he was doing and then tried to lay out like it was an incidental collision and unavoidable.

lol, you can see Matthews looking at Sidney and decides to also stay down for a bit, smart move

That was interference on Matthew's part; he was watching Crosby and lining him up. Matthew's stayed down in hopes of not getting called.

This was just after Crosby took a puck and possibly stick to the face, which came right after he was knocked into the net and hurt his knee, felt like some greater power was trying to kill him

Here's a real question, was Crosby open for the hit? I mean could he have been checked without penalty? He did have the puck briefly

If you watch it in .25 speed, you clearly see Matthews is watching the puck the entire time and moves up to try and catch it, never even seen Crosby coming, totally accident

Bit of a broken play. Shit happens. Get up and skate it off.

Well on one hand, Reilly was skating between Crosby and Matthews so there's a chance they didn't see each other till the last second so it's a "shit happens" scenario there. On the other hand it could be argued that Matthews DID see Crosby (as it does appear he looking in his direction) and lined him up as if to "make a play at the puck" only to run into him by "mistake". Personally I'd say no call is the right call since at full speed it looks incidental. Everything is easy to dissect frame by frame after the fact.

All I can say is funniest hip check ever. Scott Stevens would be shaking his head

That was a tough couple of shifts for Crosby

The only time Matthews lays a body check is when it's an accident, no surprise here

This is what happens when you continue to make skill players like Matthews have to deal with goons like Crosby running around trying to hurt everyone 😃

The modern NHL is so ridiculous. Matthews has no business being that close to his own redline. He's a fucking goal scorer and should be floating around, cheating in between the blueline & circles looking for a break. These guys are thoroughbred horses for christ sakes, yet, they're so fucking over-reigned in by modern coaching philosophies that see star players dropping to block shots for instance (which is fucking nuts! Why pay the goal tender?!). Fans want to see what these guys are really capable of. There was a far better balance prior to the late 90s (when over-coaching started) of strategy and formula vs turning these guys loose and letting them play their game and go toe-to-toe, end-to-end.
