for clarification, the flex number is the number of pounds it takes applied to the center of the shaft to bend the shaft 1 inch. an 80 flex takes 80 lbs to bend the stick by 1 inch, in the exact center.

So basically all Wingers have whippy sticks 70-82 flex for shooting.
Centers have flexes between 85-100, a little stiffer for better faceoffs, battles and passing.
Defenseman are carrying absolute battle axes with 95-130 flex for slapshots and hacks.

I got made fun of by friends for saying that flex has an effect on your stickhandling, pass catching, other non-shooting aspects of hockey. And here is Zegras and other NHLers saying that higher flex gives you better feel and feedback when handling the puck. I feel so validated

A big thing you should also ask is, kick style. High, mid or low. Found this out way too late that Mid kick point fits best for me. Uncut 87 flex P88 (Winger, 180lbs 5'10) like butter to me.
