My skin hated Adapalene, but loves tretinoin. Adapalene was harsher on my skin and tretinoin was more gentle. I think it may be due to the fact Adapalene is a gel, and the tretinoin I'm using is a cream (0.05%).

If they’re both retinoic acid, why wouldn’t adapalene also have effect on collagen production? Same with retinol, its less potent form but works for finelines etc, so why wouldn’t the stronger vit a be better like adapalene

the active form of vitamin A is retinoic acid, a completely different molecule from adapalene. Adapalene is a synthetic molecule, not related to vitamin a, designed to be more selective than retinoic acid and to cause less irritation

So by that being said, Adapalene is a night shift friendly since it is stable to light.

I have the lowest form of tret and don’t get me wrong I love her but I feel like it’s always a 50/50 chance of it maybe drying out my skin barrier and I hate it. I’m thinking maybe using adapalene so I can b able to use it more consistently bc the tret I can’t use it a lot and I feel like I’m not rlly benefitting

Dr Liu, Does using retinol cause headaches? I want to start using retinol for anti aging and some wrinkles under my eyes but I recently struggled with a month long session of horrible excruciating cluster headaches that I had 24/7, could not sleep could not work couldn’t do anything but be in horrible aching agony. Felt like my head and eye was going to burst. Ive been to neurologist, had CT, MRI, MRA and MRV’s done, neuro confirmed cluster headaches caused by HCG Tabs I was taking right before headache episode started. (Doc believes hormones caused spinal fluid buildup which causes the cluster headaches) Ive been pain free since then and I really would like to start working on my skin care routine with retinol but I don’t want to start using retinol if it induces headaches 😩
