👋 Do you want a V8 in your pickup truck? Let's put the 2022 Ford F-150 EcoBoost head to head with the 5.0L V8 Coyote motor! I know not everyone likes a V6 with twin turbos under the hood of a legendary American pickup truck, but Ford puts the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost in a good majority of their F-150 trucks. The 5.0L V8 is the standard engine tho and is a bit cheaper too. So does the V8 have more to offer than the EcoBoost? Lets compare the 2022 Ford F150 equipped with the EcoBoost vs the V8 and see what is the best engine for the 2022 Ford F150 truck?!

Very simple. If you tow near maximum go 3.5. If you want to keep the truck 10+ years go 5.0. If you tow once in a blue moon and keep your vehicles 6+ years go 5.0

This is a a real review:
I had a 2017 3.5 eco….Kept up on maintenance constantly and still ended up having issues. Low miles. After 80k miles… it was over. Traded for a 2022 5.0…. Love it. Feels like a truck. Not a large car! My opinion: 5.0L

The 5.0L has my vote. I'm probably bias because I own one, but I have zero complaints. I've test driven the Ecoboost trucks and they are nice make no mistake, but I just love a good V8 and the 5.0L is a great one.

I bought my new 2021 f150 XLT 302A with FX4 and sport package last December and eventhough I tested both trucks, I went with the 5.0l with no hesitation. What I like about the ecoboost is that I have the choice to go powerboost and get that generator. If I ever trade my 5.0... I'll get the powerboost. So far I LOVE the 5.0 and how it runs. I also own a 2004 mustang cobra so yeah I'm a V8 guy.

Just bought a 150 v8 today. Had problems with turbos in the past very expensive to repair replace. One less thing to worry about I want a truck to last 10 years with minimal problems . My last ford did that's why I bought another . Thanks ford motor company for making products that stand the test of time. Brian

Got a 2022 Ford F-150 XLT with tow package that has 14, 000 lbs. Tow capacity
Eco V6 10 speed transmission,
Really appreciate the power to tow 27 ft camper with no issues.
Had 2013 Platinum with eco boost towed great also
My reason with staying with Eco boost motor was the mpg on daily driving

I have a 21 5.0. I absolutely love it. It has a 3.73 rear end. I pull 6-8K quite a bit and it does it flawlessly. Now I can say this with 3.73 gears and 93 octane I’ve gotten 5.6 to 5.8 0-60. And it keeps pulling. It doesn’t seem like it runs out of power on the top end either. If I didn’t have a f250 on order I would most definitely be tuning and possibly supercharging it. It has a ton of potential.

the 3.5 EB is my choice and just ordered a king ranch. 3rd gen EB already fixed a list of problems, and offers better power and towing capacity- i will haul and tow quite a bit

I'm so glad Ford still offers a 5.0 NA engine; how refreshing in today's day and age. When my current truck dies, I'm going with the 5.0.

Great review video ! I own a 2016 Ford F150 with the 5.0 V8 and soo far no issues she's been pretty reliable, the price of gas today can get thirsty but @ least it will not be a headache when it comes to repairs down the road.

Lots of questions on gear ratio for these pickups. The only way these two have the same gear ratio is if they are both 3.31 which is very popular. At that point the 5.0 is rated for 9400 and the Ecoboost is rated for 11300. At max tow the Ecoboost has 3.55 and 5.0 has 3.73 and Ecoboost is 13900 and 5.0 is 13000. I go with Ecoboost due to towing in the mountains. The turbos with forced induction lose much less power than the NA 5.0.

I have been purchasing F150' since the 80's. I was always a Big V8 guy but in 2015 I purchased the 3.5 EcoBoost & I'll never go back to the V8 unless I had to. The EcoBoost is very powerful & reliable...no problems ever and have 144, 826 on at thr moment

You guys are so awesome. Anytime I have a question about a random car or truck, boom. You have a video about it. And a good video at that!! No gimmicks, no cringe humor, no stupid intros, just the INFO. Applause ****

One of the most unbiased and honest reviews I have watched. I had a 2010 with the 5.4L gutless fuel pig. Ordered a 2016 5L for simplicity and immediately noticed the bottom end lag. Practically no bottom end, dead below 3K. In 2017 I tried the 2.7 which was a great efficient commuter, lacked power towing. Ordered a 2020 FX4 with 3.5L and wow! Bottom end torque for days and decent economy. Like you said drop a $500 5 Star tune in it and you have another 50-60HP in ten minutes. I just ordered my 2023 with another 3.5L Ecobeast. I thought about the 5L and adding the Whipple charger, but those are over 8K now and require a weekend of labor w/ warranty issues. 5L has simplicity and sound, but after 200k of Ecoboost ownerwhip I have faith. Even after going through the cam phaser issues.

Ecoboost works for me had two others before this hybrid have been great and plenty of power with good fuel mileage.

Thing is, which one is the better truck? Well, the Ecoboost has 90 more pounds of torque, which can be tuned for even more. So that ecoboost may not sound like an old truck, but is the better performer.

Thanks for the video, I just bought a 2021 3.5 Ecoboost. I never thought I would go with the v6, but I'm impressed by it's power and smooth shifting. That said if I could have gotten the same truck with the V8... I probably would have gone with it, just because my 06 f150 with the 4.6 V8 was a great truck for me. I never felt like it would do me wrong, and was a solid truck for a long time. Having the v6 now, it will certainly take time to become a believer but I think Ford has done a good job with developing this motor. Thank you for the video, clear, consice, and worth the time to watch.

The Ecoboost with the Max Tow package can tow 14k lbs. And the Raptor is the worst F-150 for towing, because of its off-road setup, so comparing your Raptor towing experience does not apply to the normal Ecoboost F-150. Ford considers the 3.5L Ecoboost as its premier towing 1/2 ton for a reason. You should really research this if you're making reviews and influencing people.
