Can you show it with the i and j notation too? Can you say that the maximim directional derivative is the maximum slope at the point (1, 1) and that the tangent line is parallel to it? Can you say that the gradient vector points im the direction of greatest slope? Is their another way to find the maximum slope at an evaluated point on a surface? What does that little del mean? Is that an operator?
