A warehouse in Los Angeles was recently broken into and thieves stripped the building of $100,000 worth of copper.

This is one of those scenarios where the value of what they stole is far less than the damage caused to the owner.

The thieves will likely have to sell it at a discount to a scrap yard or ship it to another country to have it recycled there.

Meanwhile the owner has to deal with downtime, insurance claims and the process of having it all reinstalled.

Here are some interesting articles if you want to read into the massive problem of copper theft:

Years ago, we sold an industrial building in LA, it was a foreclosure and the bank had not inspected the property yet. When we did our inspection we found 2 bodies, both in different levels of decay, one was laying on top of the other. They had grabbed the copper wires that happened to be live and met their end. What an experience that was...Crazy!

I stopped locking my truck. It's cheaper just letting thieves have whatever they want vs having to replace a broken window.

The cost of installing a building security alarm and having it monitored is more than worth the piece of mind while a unit sits empty. Even if it's a $200 Ring security alarm with motion censors that you can monitor from your phone.
