Turn Your Wonderkid Into a Mentality Monster

There is a big part of Wonderkid development on Football Manager that I have ignored for years. I didn’t just ignore this helpful tidbit for videos, I wasn’t using it myself for along time. I finally shifted on my save with Floridsdorfer to doing the right thing for my hot prospects and it has started paying dividends. So, naturally, I found a way to amplify this helpful development trick to make it viable on a large scale.

For years I missed the old version of mentoring. It was more intuitive to me and made sense to pair your wonderkids one-on-one with a senior member of the team to have them look after them. Mentoring is just as useful though, it has just become more perilous to pursue, just like transfers and everything else in recent versions of Football Manager. It’s a good thing I finally figured it out!

My "200 IQ play" was just searching Spanish 15-19 (I'm in Spain) with "Model Citizen" or "Model Professional" to a lesser extent) personality and scouting every single one for 1 week. Took most of the summer but every 4+ potential player was signed (I know stars are irrelevant). My youth team have won back to back Spanish youth titles and now the majority of the team are takin on the good personalities and their development is FAR better.

real life equivalent of things like Liverpool bringing back Jay Spearing to play for the U23s at 33 years old, so he can mentor the yoofs. Another way FM is like real life!!

I really needed this video! I have a 5 star potential LB come through my academy (he's 2 star at the moment). He's now 17, last season as my main LB got a long term injury I promoted him to the 1st team as a back up to my remaining LB. He got sent off 4 times in the 6 matches he started! So this season I sent him on loan and he's been permanently unhappy, first I got a message from the loan manager that he was unhappy as he wasn't getting the playing time agreed on (OK he was coming on a as a sub when he was promised regular starter) so I talked to the manager and he started. Then he was unhappy he was being played as a wing back rather than a LB so again I talked to the other manager and it's been sorted. Now he's unhappy as he thinks he's better than the other players at the club he's on loan at. On the plus side he seems to have only been sent off once while on loan.
He was in a mentoring group with one of my resolute players and didn't seem to get any benefits from it so maybe I need to buy some model citizens (hadn't thought about that) to help my youngsters and in particular this very angry 17 year old LB. All this drama is made even worse by how happy I was to have him, as LB is always my problem area to find players for.

biver’s development will be interesting to watch. no matter how technical a player is i’ve never been able to get any development or production out of them when they have such low composure, concentration, and other mentals like that.

The only problem I had testing this: When I only had 2 goalkeepers, that group is often suggested to be disbanded in staff meetings.

Zealand, a tip. Alot (most) of the faces in your facepack have a little bright green spot at the top (Biver included). Maybe you already know this, , but you can find the .png, open it in Paint 3D, erase that little spot, touch up the hair a bit if necessary, save it, reload skin. I do that almost all my faces that have that problem. Biver deserves a clean face!

In my current save I have totally brought in 35+yo players just to be mentors to my squad of wonderkids. I didn't know about traits transferring though, I'm gonna use that!

Any idea any despite selecting to control all training every time I select your training programs for my reserves and under 23s it doesn’t save and then removes the one week I have selected for my main team? I’m using your training programs from steam workshop.

Well that made me 😁 hehehe I always again always check the personality...it's definitely one of the most important attributes even if the player does not have a lot high 12s, 15s and 20s the personality makes a difference.
