I've had the Paperwhite since 2014. I love it. There's just one thing that makes me desire the Oasis: the bigger screen. That 1" of screen space makes a huge difference in reading experience. Just compare them at 6:08 and see the difference in page layout. It feels more like a book, and you don't have to turn pages that often. But the difference in price is ludicrous. I wish they had a version with less bells and whistles and just a bigger screen.

One thing that appeals to me about the basic kindle is that I need an e-reader for my hour-long city bus commute, and I don't want to have the anxiety of flashing expensive electronics around.

I’ve had Kindle Paperwhite since approx. 2012 and it still works fine, I need to charge it a bit more often but there is nothing wrong with it. One of my fave electronic devices, especially while travelling.

I bought the kids edition of the basic kindle. It comes with a case, has a 2yr warranty, and no ads. I just chose not to set up the kids profile and use it for myself. I don’t mind the lower resolution on the screen and I don’t need a waterproof one. I’ll get a paperwhite if they ever make one with a warm screen option.

Thank you sir. In 2021 I am probably the last person on earth to research E-Books. I am looking at the Kindle ones and was not sure (as a beginner) which one to choose. You helped me make my mind up lol....thank you again from Nashville TN USA 🇺🇸 ♥

I've had my Paperwhite since 2012 (I looked for this video in order to buy one as a present, not because I needed a new one) and I am still absolutely happy with it. Since my eyes got worse, I read almost exclusively with it (hurray for adjustable font size) and the battery is still almost as good as it was when I first got it.

I've owned too many eReaders since they were introduced to the market, because I've always been disappointed in the physical feel of them. Until, finally, thank heaven, Kindle Oasis. Disable touchscreen and treat it like a paperback, I'm in heaven. I will never feel a need to replace it, unless it breaks of course, in which case I'll replace it with another Kindle Oasis. Some of the best money I've ever spent on tech, hands down.

The current basic Kindle comes with 8 GB storage standard. They have offered this since last fall of 2020. The Kindle does have access to public libraries too, but you don't do it directly form the device. You can read the library books on the device though. The kindles also offer voiceview, which is text to voice function, which kobos don't offer. The kindle basic comes in two colors.

I had the previous generation Paperwhite for several years. When the battery started having problems holding a full charge I "upgraded" to the current generation. There were enough subtle differences that it drove me crazy. After using it daily for over a month I finally returned it and got the basic reader. There are very few differences and the one difference is the change in the surrounding bezel. There is no raised bezel on the Paperwhite and I found that I often drifted a finger over the screen and changed pages when I didn't mean to. The basic reader eliminated that problem. It is backlit and while it might not be as waterproof as the Paperwhite or have the greater resolution, I find that it is a perfect fit for me.

Very thorough review! My mom's Kindle Fire that she's had since 2017 is on its last legs (she's a bookworm and practically lives on the thing). I'm starting my holiday shopping and I've been debating whether to get her the Oasis or the Paperwhite. Thinking I'm going with the Oasis considering how much she uses her Kindle, which is almost daily!

I just dug out my untouched 2015 Paperwhite. Battery is still going!
Time to finally put it to use.
I don't think there's a reason to upgrade.

The Oasis is so freaking good when you disable touchscreen on it. You can just manhandle the thing, read one-handed with your thumb on the screen, holding it securely like half a paperback, reading from any position. This is why I could never go with the Paperwhite or the likes - the way you have to hold the thing. It's ridiculous. The one improvement I'd make to the Oasis is adding a physical button to toggle touchscreen with. I'd put it right next to the power button. Why these idiots can't figure out that having to be careful not to accidentally touch a page in the book your reading is poor design is beyond me.

I’ve always wanted to try the Oasis to see if the price difference was worth it. Last thing I wanted was to pay top dollar for a device with the same screen that’s just a little larger

Bought the Oasis yesterday, charged it up before use and it was at 40% within maybe 6 hours of reading. Although it did go back to 100% in less than 45 mins of charging.

I find Libra more attractive, but I am still not sure which one will suit me the best. first of all, I don't want to be stacked only in the Amazon ecosystem, I have plenty pdf files of my own that I want to read of there. The audio function might be very useful it pops up another dilemma (although I'm using Storytel so it does cover this shortage) Now the two options that cross my mind are the Paperwhite & Kobo Libra? I'll be happy for advice (it's my first time trying ebook)

tip: it would be really great with a few visualizations about which models has or doesn't have the current feature being talked about, since I keep having to pause the video to check which model has whatever you are currently saying. Could create a big table at the end showing the features of each product

I love how light weight and HD kindle white is, battery lasts forver too even in cold weather
But I could use Page button and Audio book option if Amazons drops some holiday discount again

There are some devices that you can connect to your Kindle to “click” and turn pages if that’s something you want without going to the Oasis price range!
