How To set up a Tarp Tent [TARPOLOGY!] Wild Camping Tarp Configuration (by a tarp newbie)

I wasn’t able to do this with my previous tarp as it didn’t have enough attachment points – so here I’m using a DD Ultralight, which has lots of attachment points & works great. This tarp is 3m x 2.9m.

There are of course other ways of doing things, you can tie off the top of your tarp tent to an overhead branch or ridgeline instead of using a trekking pole. You can also guy-out the top of the door to a tree or anchored trekking pole, and if you don’t have a tree to secure the paracord to at the back, you can use an anchored trekking pole there too. You can also have a fiddle with the doorway to make it wider or higher or adjust the measurements to suit.

If it's a bit windy, you can peg down the unused attachment points along the sides.

I'm fairly new to tarps, so please do stick your tarp tent tips & tricks in the comments to help us all out :D 👇

Thank you to the legend that is @AshOutdoorsUK for bestowing his Tarpy Wisdom™ onto me 🤗

Thanks so much for watching and have a great weekend you guys! 😊 Much love, Claire 🌿🐻

Hi Guys, happy Friday! Hope this is of some use, I found this config really easy once I was shown how to do it, lots of fun too :D Have a great weekend! If you came here for flaps, hope you weren’t too disappointed 😄 Claire 🌿🐻

Love you channel! I like to do a variation of this pitch with a rectangular tarp. You fold a bit of one short side under along one of the edges that will become a sidewall. The folded under section becomes a partial floor. I also fold the front flaps over the door to one side, which mostly closes off the opening for more privacy, shelter, and “security”.

I used this set up last Wednesday when that storm came in. I was on a hill top 550m up in bowland. 40mph wind and rain.

I was warm and dry. Bit noisy but I was dry and could cook.. it's a winner for me👌👌👌

Nice one and a great set up. If you have two trekking poles put both handles in a sock or the tarp bag cinch it up, splay the trekking poles to create two legs push one each side of the tarp. That way you don’t have one central pole and it’s easier getting in and out and creates more room inside.

Great stuff! I watched this. Thought I had got it. I bought the tarp. I went camping. I could not work it out at all 😆😆 I have a rule - no internet on camp. So I just made a basic shelter. Well now I am back, this time I have taken notes. I leave tomorrow to try again! I will not give up. I want to use it to store my firewood and stuff. We will see!

One of the best teaching videos I've seen on tarp tents. You took your time in doing and explaining. I think too many rush through their videos. Maybe trying to impress us. Good job.

You could also use a second unextended walking pole at the back instead of tying it off to a tree if there wasn't one nearby! Great wee video ATB 👌

Wow, that is so cool, never would have thought you could make such a tent looking structure from a tarp with no trees

I am amazed by how often I need to relearn this tarp pitch. It is one of the best for shedding wind and rain.

I've been watching several videos on how to do this and yours is the first one that is understandable to me. Thanks!

To remove the intrusion of the trecking pole or stick inside your tent I think it would be possible to string a length of paracord with a prussic loop on it between 2 trees then use one of the tents central guy points and another length of cord threaded through the loop then pull it up to the desired height.

U make it look so easy. I’ve watched 109 Chanel’s still can’t figure out how I put the back guy line and attach it to a trekking pole and not a tree. Great vid m8.
