For the first time ever on Dirt Trax Television, AJ and Luke go head-to-head in a 50-Inch Shootout involving the 2018 Can-Am Maverick Trail VS the 2018 Polaris RZR 900. To push these vehicles to their limits, the two brothers compete in a time trial and drag race, then to complete their full analysis, they check the turning radius and conduct straight forward trail riding to get the best impressions possible on these Side x Sides. Which vehicle will take the 50-Inch title?

Agree or disagree with our winner of this Shootout? Let us know in the comments down below!

Thank you so much for tuning in to Dirt Trax 2017! We hope you had a great time over the course of the season!

I have a 2016 Polaris RZR 900. The day I bought it, I hated the jerky takeoffs, simply drove me nuts but I got used to it, kind of.
Fast forward to August 2018, clutch drive and drive bearing went out, noise was deafening, replaced both, and I swear, this thing drives better than it ever has.
It's not only quieter, but it drives off like a car, smooth as a babies behind.
Here's the thing, Polaris knew they made a bad clutch system, so when ordering a new one, they had a new part number, this means they canned the old one and the new one makes the machine one smooth runner.
My buddy has the Canam, and yeah, his is comfortable, but when we hit the mountains, I'II blow him off the trails, because of one reason, the Polaris is an extension of the driver, his Canam never lets the driver really take control, like sliding for example, or the actual feel of the road/trail.
Yeah, we both roll our machines more than we'd like to admit, but he rolls his as if it was meant to happen, and it's all because it refuses to break on corners like the RZR allows.

I’ve had my Rzr-900 trail (2017) for almost a year now. 900 miles + it has taken me everywhere the “big boys” go and a few they can’t being that I’m narrower. I love my Rzr. Just did the back way to Crown King (110 miles total round trip) no problems except for a flat on my stock tires. I’ve already upgraded those! Yes, it’s tricky on the rocks, but being narrow, I can often “go around” or ride the rocks if I keep my eyes open... I’ve surprised a few of my buddies who have four seaters!

These are 50-inch machines. Did you evaluate them on 50-inch trails?

Put 2 inch wheel spacers on that can am, when you aren’t restricted to 50 inch trails and it changes the ride yet again, so much more stable. Take them off when you are 50 restricted. That’s what I do. Awesome machine.

Will you ever compare the rzr 900trail and cf moto 800 trail?

Even though you guys put the Can-Am on top, the things you point out on the polaris were a big factor for me choosing it. I appreciate the honest opinions and data here. Can't wait to see your takes on the redesigned 2021 50" Trail machines.

I think that was a fair honest review, can't help point out the irony of your first drag race being two 50' S×S

So, the question is...did brp intentionally detune the 1000 for this application in hopes that folks would decide to go fullsize and get the extra 26 hp out of the motor...or did they say screw it, and design a restrictive intake and or exhaust just to hit a release date. Brp has "intentionally" detuned motors before. Example: A bone stock 1985 formula plus (521cc rotary intake inline twin) would absolutely destroy each and every year formula plus running the "same" motor. It would also hang with the early formula mach1's with the 583 and variable exhaust valves unless you were on a loooong field or a lake.
Some food for thought.

That's a good way to do a comparison, great video guys.

Does this Rzr have the catch on fire option?
