Last time i was at the dentist, had to have a lower tooth removed. That very nerve was not going numb. I have a neurological condition that makes pain feel over exagerated. So everytime that needle went in was torture, and it wouldn't go numb. The dentist was starting to panic and didnt know what to do. In the end I felt that the pain of pulling the tooth couldnt be worse than the needle in that nerve. The tooth come out and I took the pain. I was right, It wasnt nearly as bad. The Dentist was so impressed, but when you live with pain, you view it differently.

Dentist here. This is accurate. What is hard about this is the bone is covered by tissue. You have to angle your needle by using landmarks. It takes a while to get good at getting people numb especially lower mandíbulas blocks. I’m way better than I used to be but, it’s not a perfect science. This is Especially difficult on an infected or as we call it a “hot” tooth.

One time, a dentist told me I was a "textbook example of a dental abscess" after looking at the X-ray and he needed to do a root canal on the tooth immediately. This is on a tooth that was not chipped, had no cavities and no visible signs of being dead. I went to get a second opinion, less than a week after, from a dental surgeon who looked at me and said (after 3 panoramics and a new X-ray): "your teeth are perfectly healthy, maybe based on the X-ray the dentist thought your mental foramen might be the abscess???"

This is the nerve that was severed in my face during Maxillo Facial surgery. No one told me, I read it in the report “attempts to retrieve the nerve were abandoned”. Yay Naval Medicine 😂
