First tournament had exactly what Stephan described. Weigh in on time, you hit the floor and then have to wait 3-4 hours before your first match. By the time your match is up your mind is tired from hours of adrenaline, your body feels weird and you haven't eaten properly.

I was in his situation as a white belt with one strip for my first competition . I won my first match and that was based on pure luck. On my second competition, I got 3rd. keep pushing and be well determined. Losing is a part of life. I expect it.

Great video...Stephan, I'm a new blue belt and I have a competition this upcoming weekend. I completely agree with Rob and Matt and I have competed in 5 or so competitions myself. I am nervous every time! Some comps I did great, others were good learning opportunities...I am curious to know if the nerves ever go away or at least reduce over the years of competing?

My last tournament is more than likely forever going to be my last. I was really nervous for this tournament last March because it was open belt round robin. I was versing a boy who was a green belt and i being a girl with A grey belt I was overly nervous. About 30 seconds before our match ended he got an arm bar and I stood up in the arm bar and I lost my grip. My arm was once at the side of my body and was now extended the wrong way just for a matter of seconds. I tapped and went to the medic and than the emergency room. I have a torn ligament now. And I have tried to go back to my academy. What should I try to do or participate in to continua doing what I love?

Prioritize listening to your coaches, it'd hard during the adrenaline dump but I've beaten technically better competitors because I'm able to hear my coaches and use their advice

Wow, as a white belt competing for 1st time, I'm very discouraged my efforts don't really matter and it's a roll of the dice.
