Frollo's logic is kind of unironically hilarious:
"something bothering you? kill it, as god intended."

That moment when you realize Quasimodo has been taller than Frollo this whole time was so good

So is no one going to talk about how when they all walk on stage at the end as their “true” selves, Claude Frollo comes out dressed as his younger self- the broken, lost, moral young man? Because that really got me. Best tragic villain of all time!

I thank the master who filmed this quality bootleg for us all. If this show never makes it to Broadway…at least we have this.

I think the most profound moment for me is when the actor who plays Quasimodo walks on stage and sings "who is the monster and who is the man?" Before transforming into Quasi right in front of us. Think of the symbolism. There was nothing at all distinguishing him from the other actors on the stage, he was no different from them, until his appearance changed. It embodies the message of the entire show in less than 30 seconds.

34:42 I love how one of the first words Esmerelda says to Quasi when she saves him is “don’t be afraid” i think the choice is words really help support why Quasi really liked Esmerelda. Realistically, he was only read Bible stories. And what do angles say when they show up? “Be not afraid” Quasimodo did say she danced like an Angel, and her rescuing him? She’s his guardian Angel.
Idk lol, as someone who was raised on the Bible, I noticed it and thought that it really helped with motivation and stuff lol

I like that they created a blood bond between Quasimodo and Frollo, it gives Frollo much more motivation to keep him alive other than fear for his Immortal Soul

This really should have gone to broadway instead of Frozen smh

“The wicked shall not go unpunished” AND “What makes a monster and what makes a man” are the two GREATEST reprises of this entire musical.
Still hate that Frozen was chosen over this for Broadway play.

i honestly don't know why this didn't reach Broadway. This is gold.

man frollo is so much more gross in this one I really couldn't handle his scenes with Esmerelda and I think that's great. It's due to the fact that in this version he's not a villain from the beginning but a well meaning and slightly misguided man who could've gone either way. He becomes a villain over time as he is poisoned by denial and his inability to hold himself accountable for his actions.

Frollos actor is so good just the way he portrays stiffness and maintains his poise its cool to watch.

The moment he puts on the quasimodo costume is a powerful reminder that despite his outward appearance, the person inside is is the same.

Anybody else notice how Quasi speaks straight when he's by himself (or with the gargoyles), but then his speech is fractured around other people? It shows how he thinks compared to how he looks to other people; That he's totally capable/ competent, but comes off as the opposite to everyone else.

That's an awesome little touch!

I didn't even realize what it meant until him and Phoebus argue with each other about rescuing Esmeralda...on my third or fourth watch

The animation doesn't do this. Also, this is a much more interesting take on Frollo

In the book, Quasimodo is described as having a wart growing over one of his eyes. This renders him half-blind in addition to being mostly deaf. I think this is what he is alluding to in "Made of Stone" when he says "My one human eye will never more be dry".

In this production Frollo is played by Patrick Page, who was nominated for a Tony for playing Hades in Hadestown! He would make a FANTASTIC Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd.

Frollo: IT'S NOT MY FAULT
The choir (the reflection of the omnipotent presence aware of how frollo is actually feeling), in Latin: it's my fault, it's my fault

That moment when Quasi slams the trapdoor shut near the end and then slowly turns back to Frollo...he looked truly terrifying in that moment. The actors in this show were stunning.

This is art, the way the red lightning on the choir represents how claude sees the sin in everyone else but not himself. But when he closes his eyes on the final note, the red lighting or "sin" envelopes him too, just for the white and "holy" lighting to come back when it ends and he opens his eyes. This production fully captured the art of the original work and more.
