Do you like African cichlids? If so, what type do you keep?

Back in the 70s, I had oscars and the "powder blue/pindani - which have since been renamed. Really loved the two tanks and miss them. Now I am 71 and do not have the ability to care for large tanks. The 60 gal oscar tank had two 8" oscars, NO PLANTS cause they killed them. And I fed a food I made combining liver, spinach, fish pieces, egg and commercially made fish vitamins. I pureed this, cooked it, chilled and then put it in zip lock bags, flatened and frozen. Would then break off small pieces to feed. They loved it. Kept a diatom filter running constantly and did a total breakdown clean every two weeks. They did not like any of the cichlid foods available at the time. Couple of feeders were a treat for them every couple of months. Never had a problem with illness or head worms though I knew others who did. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your channel and have subscribed. Will continue to watch anything you post on oscars and Malawis. Thank you so much, glad I found you. Watched the oscar video first with "Ebony and Ivory, " cute names. Have never seen the white and red variant before, what is that called, please. Back in the 70s, there were only the "natural" or brown, tiger and red varieties Have seen the pure white "albino, " but not this white and red combination - gorgeous. If I were able to have oscars again, that is what I would want. Your videos are chock full of beautiful fish and great info!!! Keep up the great work!

Another reason folks might associate you with African Cichlids is a reason why I do, as well: I notice quite a few aquariums in the background of your videos have them in there! Love seeing the guys, myself!

This was very helpful and interesting. Perfect amount of info, many things for everyone on many levels of knowledge. You make cichlids interesting allthough they are not my favourites, the video seemed to end in under a minute! If you ever feel like making a video on hov you prepare raw greens for them, like method, amount for different tanks/different greens), when to give what and why, how to give it, preparing, and so on, please do. :) To see is to understand. Thank you!

Love how several of your peacocks have nuchal humps. Didn't know they would develop those. Looks awesome

Great video, you’re always going to be the African cichlid guy to me, you are one of the people that inspired me to keep them.

My favorite types of videos are the raw, unedited ones: doing maintenance, taking care of the fish, customizations, tutorials, etc. Have you ever considered going down that route a bit? Thanks for the video.

Just got some Salousi not too long ago. I got four and hope to grow them out and have some babies. Also got Jalo Reefs and Yellow Mbamba

My first cichlid is a 6inches Steveni-Taiwan which is a Lake Malawi specie, I really liek its behavior and eating habit.
So fun to let the kids feed him which always eat them all. lol!

It was nice that you can differentiate between the different species of African cichlids and how you care for them as well dietary needs. Your fish look nice and healthy Zenzo. Great colors.

Great video man. My favorite are Mbunas and Peacocks. I wish my channel becomes also as successful as yours someday. Wish me luck. Seriously love your tanks.

Awesome to meet you this weekend! I love watching the educational content that you and some of the linked channels provide. I have a young child, and my aquariums are a fun side-hobby for now, but I'd love to get my cherry shrimp up and breeding enough to pay for themselves!

Great video. I have had and breed both. The colors and personality are to me the best other than puffers. Thanks for sharing.
