If Disney wanted to bring back gravity Falls, they would probably create a Soos and Melody spinoff series. Which would probably be more comedy focus with little to no mysteries in it. My interesting fun fact to add to this:
There was actually a message from Alex Hirsch saying “Gravity Falls will return” in the credits of Gideon Rises. For the longest time I thought I was misremembering this because I never heard it when I watched the episode again. Turns out the message was only played once during the first airing of the episode! Wonder what the deal was there?

I think the reason the gnome drawing was made to be less scary was to better sell the misdirection in the episode. They foreshadow that the gnomes are the real culprit when Dipper accidentally opens to that page instead of the zombie page, and it’s played off like “haha that’s silly gnomes aren’t scary”, which wouldn’t have worked as well if the gnomes actually did look menacing.

My theory on the Gnome Page is that it wasn't actually an S&P censorship thing but I think it was changed to a more adorable looking Gnome to play up the gag on how rabid they actually were. Basically a subversion of expectation and to highlight how Ford's logs on the journals had some significant gaps in his findings too
