Cunard Pub Lunch Food at The Golden Lion (Queen Mary 2)

See what the Cunard pub lunch food & menu at the Golden Lion bar was like! These were from our June 2022 transatlantic crossing aboard the Queen Mary 2 ocean liner. The Golden Lion pub reminded us somewhat of NCL cruise ships' O'Sheehan's Neighborhood Bar & Grill eatery. The food from Cunard's gastropub lunch, however, seemed to be more authentic British food. Classics include Beer-Battered Fish & Chips with Mushy Peas, as well as Chicken Tikka Masala. There was also the Golden Lion Ploughman's with York gammon ham as well. All the food you see are INCLUDED with the cruise fare- no need to pay extra.

I'll definitely be hanging out here quite a bit! Sticky toffee pudding is called that only because "pudding" in the UK mostly just means dessert...of any kind. "How can you have your pudding if you don't eat your meat?!" ;) It's a super moist cake made from dates and containing treacle (which is super similar to molasses..you may have seen a treacle tart at tea), the covered in a toffee sauce.

I liked the looks of the Steak and Ale Pie of the Day and the Fish and Chips.

Mushy peas are a staple in a British "Chippy", not for everyone but if you are going for the authentic British way of eating your fish and chips ditch the lemon and tartar sauce and add brown malt vinegar and salt.... the lemon and tartar sauce are still ok though.

I have fish and chips at the Golden Lion often every time I do the crossings. Excellent reviews of their wide assortment.

Sigh, on my Qn. Elizabeth cruise last June I missed out eating fish & chips in the pub because I kept forgetting (I went to the pool grill twice).
When I did go to the pub, it was always after lunch was over or at night. Poo!!

Hi Joann and David, I love fish and chips and that looked yummy. The beef pie of the day was the first I've seen of something like that. I agree with Joann, I'm not a pea aficionado but maybe mashed like that with some spices??? Thanks as always. Hi from Bob and Jill in Connecticut

My friend had flown on the Cunard Queen Victoria before. He told me that Cunard’s food choices are less than those on other large cruise ships. There are only three free restaurants to choose from in the cabins.

Let you in a little secret when you see the word pudding on a British ocean liner it just is a generic word for dessert it's not as precise as the Americans would use to work for an actual type of dessert so when you see the word pudding in England or on English liner it uses just means dessert

It's so nice to see it's just 1 piece of fish. There are so many eating opportunities on these trips, I want to eat lesser portions more often! (And I don't love peas either.)

Mushy peas..saw the hard swallow. I would not even attempt..as I have no sense of smell or taste..the texture alone would have been enough of a determent. Lol. Love your vlogs.

As a Brit I wouldn't even consider fish and chips without mushy peas (when we go to the chip shop I always get extra 😋)....but well done for having a go if you don't like peas 👍 We tend to use the word 'pudding' interchangeably with dessert - I believe in the US pudding is more like a blancmange? But when I was young a pudding was usually a flour/suet type cake which was steamed. It could contain jam (roly poly) or currants (spotted dick) and was very stodgy and served with hot custard 🔥
