These Are The 10 Scandinavian Dog Breeds

The Scandinavian region is part of northern Europe, which is universally known to consist of three countries: Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Yet some argue that other areas, like Iceland, should be considered Scandinavian for geological reasons. No matter the actual landmass of Scandinavia, there are several dog breeds known to originate from the area.
Scandinavian dogs are typically hard-working and loyal, and they’re efficient when it comes to handling tough terrain and extreme weather conditions.
Many Scandinavian dogs were bred to hunt wild animals and manage domesticated livestock. In this video, we have listed the Top 10 Scandinavian Dog Breeds.

I have a 3 year old Norwegian Elk Hound. He is the absolute sweetest dog I've ever owned. And he is very intelligent. He still gets in trouble every once in a while, but he's so smart he puts himself in time out.

This video should be called Top Nordic dog breeds

You are including Finnish and Icelandic breeds, so why not to use the title "Nordic Dog Breeds"...?

I've had four Norwegian Elkhounds, and have seldom found them to be particularly suspicious of strangers. They are fine family dogs, sensible watchdogs, smart, beautiful, and charismatic.

I love the Swedish Jämthund (Swedish elkhound). Part of my childhood was spent in Jämtland and this was one of the most popular dogs for hunting. Such gorgeous dogs.

First, Scandinavia is only Sweden, Norway an Denmark. The Nordic countries are Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland.
Secondly, several nordic breeds are missing in the list🙂

When I was younger, I had a Norwegian Greyhound and German Shepherd mix. The girl otherwise looked like a gray deerhound but had the head and personality of a German Shepherd. It was the easiest of all 3 dogs to train. In the morning, when you let it out, it could be 2 hours without being seen in the yard, but every time you whistled or shouted at it, it only took a minute before it came to see what was going on.

Daily groom of a Norwegian elkhound could prove harmful, they have oils in their fur that are essential to healthy skin and coat that over grooming (daily grooming) could disrupt... don’t make “informative” videos if the info isn’t correct😬 or could be potentially damaging. Also they shed biannually if they shed year round their diet is off or you’re over grooming and their natural oils are lacking. They also due to the oils in their fur do not need baths (maybe once a year) and almost never have a nasty “dog smell” to them. Norwegian elkhounds deserved way higher praise in this video.

I miss the Danish-Swedish Farmdog on the list though. A smallish dog, reminiscent of a Jack Russel terrier

Sooo um a lot of these dogs are from Finland yet Finland wasn’t included as part of Scandinavia in the intro? Right.
