In Episode 8 of our road trip through Turkey we travel to the city of Konya where the Whirling Dervishes originated (they are followers of the 13th century Persian poet Rumi). In this video we see the performance of a Sema. The Sema is a dance where members of the Mevlevia spin and pray at the same time. Watch as we witness these men pray and dance as a part of their religion.

While watching them whirl, it was like something happened. So ethereal and magnificent, I have to check it out for myself once.

Like you, I’ve always been curious about the whirling dervishes. I just returned from Istanbul and had an opportunity to attend a beautiful performance. The music and the spiritual dancing are both captivating. Thank you for your explanations in this video! 🌹
