I'm in Istanbul, Turkey, exploring all the top sites and cultural attractions of the city. In this video, David presents one of the most popular and interesting parts of the Turkish Culture, the amazing Whirling Dervishes. A Sufi practice, this spinning action is used as a physical form of meditation and worship that dates back over 800 years. A mystical and beautiful site to experience, head to the Galata Museum in Istanbul to see this incredible form of religious worship first hand.

Stuff like this makes me cry. Idk why. It's bot just this culture. It's all cultures or religious people that held onto the older traditions and idk. It's just.... it makes emotional

I get pretty buzzed when I whirl around for hours also...

Though usually I just fall down rather than meet God..

So congratulations on their technique.

It's so impressive how they are able to spin for a long time and not get dizzy

This is just a positive culture, not part of obligatory worship.

Sufis believe that you have to dance to get a closer connection with Allah, I'm Sunni and i believe that you need to practice your religion and follow the commands of Allah, also read the Qur'an and study Islam to get a closer connection with Allah

I wonder if holding their heads cocked over helps with the potential dizziness? I'd be on my butt after a few minutes at best.
