Caleb, I think the IBIS is the crown jewel here. I now have flexibility to get the camera off tripod and capture some free form images without wrangling a Gimbal ... and add auto focus to follow movement, it 's a winner for production.

I think its a great camera. Im leaning towards the A7R5 because of the rear screen and the Tamron 20 - 40, a much more expensive set up, but just all-round complete for me

Do you still use your GH4? If so, are you able to somewhat match the looks between GH4 and GH6? I have both and am wondering if I should keep the GH4 or get rid of it. Thanks.

Did you mention the saving to external SSD, with no record limits? This sound great for those really long interview session. Then if you had a button on the app, to set marks in the video when you change questions, it would be perfect (or maybe just an AI editor will find those points).

Wish FF sensors had faster readout speeds... That's why you get the weird edge jello effects when vlogging I think.

If your shooting open gate, and you need a object to be completely in frame for both 16:9 and 9:16 content then you really need to be within the vertical and horizontal markers, at this point you may as well be shooting 16:9 and be in the center of the frame, plus you can't shoot 50/60p, so I really don't see how practically it is. As for gaining more resolution because open gate is taller, you don't really need that resolution on vertical social media content.

It seems to me that your are more happy with the camera than with GH6...more genuine happiness probably the AF phase detect and the trip to Japan were for something. And super cool that they chose you as well to get there.
I definatly be getting one for me which make me move even more away from MFT was not convinced with GH6 and I am ever less now...except rolling shutter and 4K 120 I really don't see any plus for GH6 even the price drop here in Switzerland I could have get one for 1499 CHF by some resellers plus 200$ Cashback I would have been 1299$ and I did not buy it still...but maybe you have something else you can 't disclose and make you even more happy than S5ii...yours Fil

I'm just getting into Video/Photography and editing with Davinci(purchased) I recently purchased a GH5 with the 12-35 lens so I don't really have a lot of equipment but I struggle with the auto focus on the GH5 have watched 100's of YouTube including probably all of yours Caleb but still end up with many blurry clips and photos as well... thought it would be easier but should I just jump on the s5ii since I am not fully invested in the GH5 and start from there...? just throwing it out there. Mainly looking to do family videos and photographs as well with the hope of getting fully involved in the editing process as well as using a camera that I can grow into. Hey thanks for reading. So the big question do I sell the gh6 for this, I’ll be completely honest I don’t feel the GH6 holds me back at all with my work because I’m so used to manual focus now. But I’m open to making my life easier.

can it (or do you know of any other camera) record video simultaneously on two cards? i mean, recording the video with the incamera lut on a card, while still having an ungraded version on the other or even same card (should one want to re-grade it at some point)?

How’d you set your WB just by yourself like that? I remember when I had a G85, I have to clip it somewhere in the frame and set the WB on camera, meaning I need to leave the scene. But with your style, you’re just holding the target.

Hi Caleb! Thanks for the excellent review. I'm going to get the Lumix S5 IIx when it becomes available. Love these two features the most: IBIS and Real Time LUTs.

With the Lumix f/1.8 prime lenses and some Lumix and Sigma zoom lenses I will be a happy camper. There is supposed to be a Lumix 105mm macro prime lens coming - hope it is f/1.8 and the same size as the other Lumix prime lenses.

My wife and I are going to Italy for four months in Spring 2024 - trip of a lifetime. We want to build up a nice camera/lens kit for the trip. I'm thinking my wife would be fine with the Lumix S5 II and for myself the Lumix S5 IIx (for external SSD recording mainly).

If Panasonic comes out with an updated Micro 4/3 camera with a hybrid PDAF system by then she'd probably want that, because it should be lighter.

I'm sorry for my critical point of view, I think your channel and content is very good, but the Lumix event in Tokyo has a bad aftertaste.
Panasonic actually achieved what Sony and Canon have been able to do for a long time, far too late. I'm also a Lumix fan and have a G9, the S5 was sold and also a GX9, GX80, and GX880. This makes the problem clear to many amateurs. We appreciate the MFT system and the lighter and smaller cameras. But with the many influencers and Panasonic, the cameras are only getting bigger and heavier. I often lose creativity and fun when I'm on the go.
The S5 was just too heavy for me, clumsy and the lenses are also typically full format rather cannon barrels.
Why can't progress go into simpler and lighter cameras again? So many dream of a new LX100 or G9 Mark2, maybe a G8x version too.
I just feel abandoned and disappointed by Panasonic.
