I just bought one of these. I have a DSLR and a mirrorless from Canon, and I just wanted to play around with some Panasonic tech and get a sense of how the menus and interface work. I am having a lot of fun with this zoom camera. I mostly shoot extremely pretentious black and white artistic shots, and it's really good for that. The gradient is beautiful with the grays, and I'm getting some really lovely shots that I wouldn't be getting on a better camera. I'm mad that I can't connect the camera directly to my phone, but I am really enjoying this device. I recommend it for people who have other cameras but who want something fun. This is a great travel camera, this is a great camera when you are with friends and family, the wide angle is extremely wide and the close-ups are very close. You can also do a lot with the exposure and saturation in camera, so it will spit out JPEGs that you can use for social media or casual non-commercial situations.

In anything other than bright sunlight, I’ve struggled to squeeze great photos out of the FZ80. The sensor and the glass are what really knocks this camera down, making it so difficult to get shots I’m 100% happy with. Graham Houghton has a great series here on YouTube on these cameras.

Yes. In my opinion Panasonic should have continued the FZ330 series.

True, but it is not aimed at the serious or professional photographer. Like you say, it is aimed at the beginner and casual photographer and should be evaluated as such. For that market, and at that price point, it actually offers a lot.

Ya know, this camera is still really cool for the price, definitely a travel camera. But I think pushing it to have the 1” sensor would have been a better idea even if it upped the price a bit.

I am going to snag this or the zs99 when it comes out.

The zoom reach on this thing is crazy though, and it looks like it has a filter thread!

The Sony RX series are the best bridge cameras ever. The Lumix 1" sensor competitors were very close seconds. Canon's G7 series a very distant 3rd place. All of them with superior images when compared to any modern smartphone.

So what is the best bridge camera then?

They ruined what used to be a great video camera by removing the mic input. It was so great for recording live music in previous models.

Wait, can't those noise issues be aided by lowering the ISO?

🤔 What are "serious" photographers?

The 2016 fz30 has a bigger sensor, flip out screen, 2.8 constant apature zoom. You have no idea what youre talking about.

No way smartphones are better than this cam

You can't compare this to large sensor cameras - that's just foolish. Also weird to compare optical to an iphone which only has a 3x zoom and also costs $1000.
