This guy should be getting huge pro offers right now. A 1:44 low with a negative split in a championship race is crazy. I think there's a solid chance he makes the US 800 team.

"I knew I had to make it hurt for them."
Probably the most badass post race phrase I've ever heard. Heart of a lion

The announcers were dead on. Sumner just walked off the finish line while everyone else looked like they were about to keel over. What an asolute beast

Insane negative split! I was critical of him running 1:46 in the semis, thinking he used too much energy. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Couldn’t happen to a nicer kid either.

Negative splitting a 1:44 is insanely good. Means he has the closing speed and strength to compete on the world level

With strong competition, this guy will run in 1.42. 51" on the second lap is impressive as hell.

Athing Mu, and Keely Hodgkinson, were 18 when they took Gold & Silver at the Olympics 22 months ago. College freshmen age and the best in the world.
Now Roisin Willis, Juliette Whittaker, and Will Sumner are all true freshman and also the best collegiates in the country. Weird how the 800 has worked out that way.

To beat his previous PR by almost 2-seconds is nothing short of amazing. Hope Will has something left in the tank for U.S. nationals.

Beautiful run. His dad broke my national record in the 600m in 1989.

When I heard her ran 115 indoors in high school for the 600 I knew one of the greats was announcing to the world he was a player.

Doesn't tie up at all at the end. He makes that 1:44 look easy! Go Sumner!
