When people talk about the Spanish empire, they always talk about South America but never about North America. Is it because it hurts them? Do you know Mexico is in North America? Have you ever heard of New Spain? California, Nevada, Florida, Colorado, etc.

Some mistakes:
Spain reached to Alaska, it had colonies in Africa and the Habsburg possesions in Europe

If you want to be technical about, the whole British empire belonged to Spain when Phillip the II was around .

I don't mean to be rude but shouldn't the Spanish Empire include Austria and it's possessions until 1556?

Much of the territory of the United States, was part of the Spanish empire, before the arrival of the pilgrims in the Mayflower, there were already Spanish territories, without doubt Spain is the pioneer.

I always wished I could visit Havana in like 1700 just to see what it'd be like. I've always been interested in how people lived in colonies back then, minus all the horrible diseases and death of course. Spanish architecture in the colonial era interests me too, the churches built in the New World and etc. I just like to imagine the Spanish music playing on the guitar in public in the Caribbean night, no technology, just you and the city. (andwork) Even places like Lisbon before the earthquake, a huge harbor with one of the largest cities in Europe. I imagine being near the docks with all the sail ships, and the people going about doing their business. Ships bringing in trade from eastern oceans. I just wish I could go back and watch the ships go into the harbor.

The English were lucky in the napoleonic wars, Spain lost his colonies in that war and England didn't.
