It's entertaining how they are dramatizing the war like they actually know what's going on.

All of the given reasons for all this are sound and valid, but there are also important supply lines for the Russian military that run through that general region. Not through the territory that Ukraine holds now, but a little further in. It may be an objective to dismantle those supply lines.

Geopolitical analyst Peter Zeihan has said all along that there is an important logistics hub for the Russian military somewhere in that general part of of Russia, and he said that if Ukraine was EVER going to get to have the threat of Russian harassment behind them that logistics hub would have to be undone. Maybe this it it being undone.

May the leaders stop taking things for granted. The UN won't acknowledge newly captured land.

Seemingly, the most important, if unstated, consideration is that Ukraine is now or soon within artillery striking distance of the Kursk nuclear power plant (NPP). Remember the radioactive cloud going north because of the prevailing winds after the disaster at Chernobyl? If RU dares use a nuclear weapon, Ukraine can retaliate and the NPP will send a radioactive cloud immediately to Moscow, 300 miles due north. This invasion is ridding RU of its nuclear threat through “mutual deterrence” and actually preventing WW3. The West could ensure, and long could have ensured, the deterrence by giving permission to Ukr to use Storm Shadows and other long-range missiles to take out the NPP, if justified. Excellent, excellent news.

The Ukrainian Kursk operation was the stupidest thing they could do. They are wasting their best troops and equipment for propaganda purposes. the move is maybe bold and audacious. But, it is certainly stupid!
