How to CAULK a Big GAP. PRO Tips! Start to Finish!

In this video, I show you the caulking tips and tricks I have developed over the years to get a nice bead of caulk even in a big gap. This window had a big gap, but the technique I show you will work for all water based caulking projects.

I learned some great stuff from this video! 45 degree angle, brace your hand, use headlight for visibility, don't push down into the gap, use a bucket and sponge for keeping clean, so many great tips.

THANK YOU. I have been a professional caulker for over 40 years and I am so tired of the usual stupid advice like cutting the tip really small, not using backer rod, forcing as much caulk into the gap as possible and wet tooling. You got it right. Well done. ( of course as a professional I wouldn’t use my finger, I have specialized tools) This IS the correct way to install caulk. Again thank you for doing it right.

Nice tip using the putty knife to stuff the backer rod down, going to be doing this in my shower that has a deep gap at the front of the pan

I've used painters tape to mask off the surrounding surfaces to facilitate straight line and also prevent the extra caulk. Probably not an issue though with smaller gaps.

Pretty good video. Couple criticisms.. In someones home especially, its important to keep your hands clean. Wear gloves! Also, you talk about imperfections and then you shape your silicone with your finger tip. Use a plastic scraper with a rounded edge to maintain consistency! Lastly, use masking tape to create a perfect edge on your beads, prep the entire area with isopropyl alcohol before starting, and clean yourself and your tools with he alcohol constantly and keep a bag with you to put all your dirty wrags.

I personally use masking tape even tho its an extra step but it just saves the hassle of wiping my fingers and all that.
