as someone with a dust allergy, dusters always seemed weird to me. Just spread it all into the air to fall down onto surfaces again

I w noticed that when trying to shine surfaces with the first type of cloth, the tiny fibers stick to the glass leaving lint. I’m needing that glass cloth. I tend to just use a clean Terry cloth bar rag slightly damp and it shines up beautifully

Not a cleaner, but allergic to dust mites. When u use a duster, you just fluff all the dust in the air. It ends up back everywhere in 10ish minutes, after it had time to settle.

I’ve been using these cloths for over 10 years. They’re brilliant for windows but best of all, no chemicals needed.

The two cloth surface only works if you can reach the surface involved. I was cleaning professionally before microfiber was invented. Natural fibers were so much better than ANY man-made fabrics available back then. Dusters are for daily maintenance, and delicate knickknacks, not for heavy cleaning. And we never, never used water on antique finishes. There were specially treated cotton cloths...

Window cleaner mildly degreases (ammonia or substitutes) and leaves no residue. So a good glass cleaner, spray directly on surface, then use a windows cloth (microfiber etc). 2 Steps.

My mom cleaned professionally my entire childhood. I didn't even know those "duster" things existed as a child.

Aka "wet dusting" - if one lives in a dusty place (I do), it really helps and if one has allergies it's a lifesaver.

Oooh I’ve always had issues with lint sticking. Thanks for the tip!

Recently i was trying to clean a stainless steel trashcan. I tried glass cleaner and it did nothing. A Castile soap solution in a spray bottle cleaned it up and a polish with a dry cloth made it shiny. It's funny how the simple things work the best.

But would you do this on wood, like wood shelves? And what about things like knickknacks or books? I don’t have any 80’s era shiny black coffee tables lol. I thought water wasn’t great for wood?

That's also how you end up cutting down on dust instead of just smearing it all around the surface. Which is exactly what those other types of dusters do. 🙌🏻

I use no duster...just my vacuum attachments and I empty the canister outside and then I wash my canister really well and the filters too. The only thing about damp cloth on dust, it depends where the dust is, anything in a kitchen needs a vegetable oil based cleaner or in a pinch, vegetable oil placed on the grease mixing it in well and leave it and come back and wipe it up, not only does it shine whatever you put it in but it also protects the wood as over time even painted wood gets dry. Ceiling fan always are icky so those I use the damp cloth method...makes life easier!

Right to left, top to bottom. Love it

Have always done this - on safe surfaces (even wood) you can add a drop of vinegar to the damp cloth instead of the soap
