Thanks for all this information. Johnny has been one of my favorites since 1968. I met him in the Atlanta airport in 69 - just a regular guy, wasn't into being a "rock star."
Saw him play many times. Always amazing! RIP Cool Daddy Johnny.

I have seen Johnny and Edgar both several times back in the early 1970’s. I saw Johnny at the House of Blues in the early 2000’s and he had to be escorted out on stage to a chair. Once he got settled in his chair he rocked out just as hard as I remembered him in the 70’s. Amazing guitarist. Rest In Peace Johnny.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I saw Johnny fifty years ago at the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino, California, and he tore it up. He was unique, even in such a crowded field of guitarists. R.I.P. to the master thumb-picker.

I saw him twice in Montreal. Most young blues players never even heard of him! They know Stevie, Clapton and Hendrix and nobody else beyond that !

Johnny tried making standard pop and soul music on "Saints and Sinners" helped out by brother Edgar and his band. I love that record. He even tried funk on "Feedback on Highway 101".

Johnny was paid 600.000 $ in 1969 by Columbia to join their label and here'a a fun fact about his debut album

Bill Josey, who owned Sonobeat Records, had recorded a live show at the Vulcan Gas Company in Austin so Johnny would have a demo to shop for a major label. However, Josey released that performance as Progressive Blues Experiment on his own label. But before the ink had dried on Johnny’s Columbia contract, Josey sold the LP to United Artists. This album is still one of Johnny’s best-selling and most highly acclaimed releases, but the artist never saw a penny. 'Bill Josey had the tapes and he got the money, ' Johnny says. 'Even now when they sell that CD, I don’t get any money.'”

What happened to Johnny Winter? He died. What a stupid question.

Blues guitar music is boring, antiquated and done to death. Its peak moment was Hendrix playing his song "Red House" at the San Diego Sports Arena in 1968. It's a virtuoso performance that took "blues" to its ultimate end.
